If a cell in an Excel spreadsheet contains numbers followed by text, standard functions like SUM or AVERAGE cannot be used to calculate the numeric values. For users with Excel 2013 or later, you can use a text manipulation method to separate the numbers from the accompanying text, removing any Chinese units while retaining just the numbers for easier calculations. To remove Chinese units from the example below and keep only the numbers: First, double-click on a cell in the first row of your table; this will place a blinking cursor inside it. Then click and drag your mouse over the numbers within that cell to select them. Alternatively, you can select them using the editing bar above. After selecting, click on 'Copy' or press Ctrl+C on your keyboard. Next, paste this copied data into an adjacent cell in the same row. Once pasted, press 'Ctrl+E' (Note: Before pressing 'Ctrl+E', ensure that only one cell is selected without any blinking cursor; otherwise, it won't work). If you prefer not to use 'Ctrl+E', you can also click on ‘Fill’ under the ‘Home’ tab in Excel and choose ‘Flash Fill’ (which is what Ctrl+E activates). After pressing 'Ctrl+E' or clicking ‘Flash Fill’, Excel will automatically extract just the numeric values from your table cells—effectively removing any Chinese units—allowing for easy summation of these figures afterward. Note: The Flash Fill feature may occasionally encounter issues; it's best practice to verify that filled data is accurate after performing Flash Fill.
