But as the clock ticks towards the end of 2024, a new chapter is about to begin. The very next generation, poised to enter the world starting January 1, 2025, will be known as Generation Beta.
So, what exactly defines this upcoming cohort? According to researchers like those at McCrindle, Generation Beta will encompass individuals born between 2025 and 2039. This means they'll be the children of younger Millennials and older members of Gen Z. By 2035, they're projected to make up a significant portion of the global population, at least 16%.
What's particularly fascinating about Gen Beta is how deeply integrated technology will be in their lives. While Gen Alpha is getting acquainted with smart devices and AI, Gen Beta is expected to experience artificial intelligence and automation as a seamless part of their existence – from their education and work to their healthcare and entertainment. It's a future where the lines between the digital and physical worlds will likely blur even further.
Interestingly, this pervasive technological immersion might also lead to a different parenting approach. We're already seeing Gen Z parents express a stronger inclination to set limits on screen time for their children compared to Millennials. This suggests that while Gen Beta will be born into an even more technologically advanced world, their upbringing might involve a more conscious effort to balance digital engagement with real-world experiences.
And what about the generation after Beta? If we follow the current naming convention, which draws from the Greek alphabet, the next group is likely to be Generation Gamma, born roughly between 2040 and 2054.
