Your UO Housing Journey: Navigating the 'My Housing' Portal

So, you've been accepted to the University of Oregon – congratulations! Now comes the exciting part: figuring out where you'll call home on campus. It all starts with something called 'My Housing,' and honestly, it's your central hub for everything related to your campus living experience.

Think of 'My Housing' as your personal dashboard. Once you've received your admission offer, you'll get an email with a special 95# number. This is your key to creating your account in the My Housing portal. Don't worry if you haven't officially committed to UO yet; you can still register for housing. The university understands that you might still be weighing your options, and they've made it easy to cancel your housing registration by June 1st if your plans change, with a full refund of your initial payment. That's a pretty sweet deal, giving you peace of mind.

Now, about timing. Registration opened on December 1st. The earlier you get your registration in, the more say you'll have when it comes to picking your actual room. It’s a bit like a lottery, but your registration date determines your spot in line. Registering before March 1st puts you in Group 1, giving you earlier access to room selection. Between March 1st and May 1st lands you in Group 2, and after May 1st is Group 3. So, if you're still on the fence about committing, but you're leaning towards UO, getting that housing registration done early is a smart move.

Once you're in the portal, you'll sign your contract and make an initial payment of $350, plus a $50 non-refundable registration fee. Then, it's time to explore! You can dive into the different housing options, check out the various residence halls, and even get a feel for the room types available. They've got 360-degree tours, which is fantastic for getting a real sense of the space before you even step foot on campus.

But it's not just about the physical space; it's about finding your community. UO offers Academic Residential Communities, where you can live with students who share your academic passions and even take some of the same courses. Then there are Residential Communities focused on shared identities or values. It’s a great way to connect with like-minded individuals right from the start.

Roommate selection is another big piece of the puzzle, and it happens in June. You can create a profile and start browsing for potential roommates. The actual room selection process kicks off in mid-July, with your assigned time slot based on your registration group. It’s a really hands-on approach, giving you a lot of control over your living situation.

For first-year, full-time students coming directly from high school, the university guarantees a housing space as long as you've completed your registration. If you don't see an available space immediately, keep checking the My Housing portal – things can change. For returning, transfer, exchange, or visiting students looking to live on campus, registration also opens December 1st, but spaces are anticipated to be more limited. There's an interest waitlist, and priority is given based on registration date.

Remember those important dates: December 1st for registration opening, February 28th and May 1st as key deadlines for room selection groups, and June 1st as the last day to cancel for a full refund. Mid-July is when you'll actually select your room, and move-in happens in late September. It’s a process, for sure, but 'My Housing' is designed to guide you through it smoothly, helping you find your perfect campus home at the University of Oregon.
