Your Gateway to Yosemite: Navigating to the Majestic Park

Planning a trip to Yosemite National Park is exciting, and one of the first practical questions that pops up is, 'How do I get there?' For many, flying in is the most convenient option, and when it comes to Yosemite, Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) is your closest major hub.

From FAT, you're looking at a drive of about an hour and twenty minutes to reach Tenaya at Yosemite, and then just another ten minutes or so to the park's south entrance. It’s a pretty straightforward journey, making Fresno a solid choice for your arrival.

Of course, Yosemite is a vast place, spanning over 700,000 acres of unparalleled grandeur – think massive waterfalls, towering granite domes, and ancient giant sequoia trees. It's a land that truly inspires awe.

Beyond flying, if you're considering public transportation, the YARTS bus system is a fantastic option. It runs year-round from Merced along Highway 140, and during the warmer months (May to September), you can also catch it from Fresno (Highway 41), Sonora (Highway 120), and Mammoth Lakes (Highway 120/395). All these routes conveniently end up in Yosemite Valley, which is often the heart of many visitors' plans.

It's worth noting that for summer YARTS service on certain highways, advance reservations are recommended, though a small number of seats might be available on the day. So, if you're planning a summer visit, booking ahead is a good idea to ensure your spot.

Remember, Yosemite is open 24/7, though the Hetch Hetchy entrance station has daylight-hour limitations. While day hikes generally don't require permits (unless you're tackling Half Dome, of course!), backpacking and overnight camping do need wilderness permits. And for entry, you'll need a park pass. The 'America the Beautiful' Pass is a popular choice, covering entry to Yosemite and many other national parks for a year. It's a good idea to look into the pass options and perhaps purchase one in advance to make your arrival smoother.

No matter how you choose to arrive, the journey to Yosemite is just the beginning of an unforgettable experience in a truly iconic national park.
