Washington D.C. Weather: A Look Ahead to Mid-March 2026

Planning a trip to Washington D.C. in early to mid-March 2026? It looks like you'll need to pack for a bit of everything, as the weather forecast paints a rather mixed picture.

As we move from February into March, the data suggests a significant shift. While February 19th, 2026, was a relatively mild day with temperatures in the low 40s Fahrenheit and a good chance of precipitation, the outlook for the following weeks is quite varied.

Looking at the period between March 6th and March 20th, 2026, we see a real rollercoaster. Early March seems to bring a mix of cloudy skies and light rain, with temperatures hovering around the high teens to low 20s Celsius (around 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit). For instance, March 6th is predicted to be cloudy with highs around 13°C (55°F) and lows of 7°C (45°F). But then, things take a turn. By March 7th, it's a much warmer 24°C (75°F) with cloudy skies, followed by a shift back to rain and then clearing by March 8th, with highs around 20°C (68°F).

The latter half of this two-week span, however, introduces a stark contrast. From around March 12th onwards, the forecast leans heavily towards colder conditions and snow. We're seeing predictions of snow with temperatures dropping significantly, even into the negatives Celsius (below freezing Fahrenheit). For example, March 12th and 13th are both showing snow with highs around 6°C (43°F) and lows of 0°C (32°F), and then even colder with highs around -8°C (18°F) and lows of -16°C (3°F) by March 13th. This dramatic shift suggests that while early March might offer some milder, rainy days, the latter half could bring a proper winter chill with snow.

It's always a good idea to keep an eye on the forecast as your travel dates approach, especially in transitional seasons like early spring. This glimpse into mid-March 2026 suggests that layering your clothing will be key, and perhaps having both rain gear and warmer winter wear on standby could be a wise move for any D.C. adventures.
