The Tanglefoot: A Thorn in Your Side (And How to Deal With It)

You're questing along, perhaps deep into the "Fairytale I - Growing Pains" quest, and then you encounter it: the Tanglefoot. This isn't your average bush. Released back in February 2006, this walking thorn bush, standing at combat level 111, presents a rather unique challenge that can leave you scratching your head.

What makes the Tanglefoot so peculiar? Well, it's immune to pretty much everything you'd normally throw at an enemy. Swords, axes, bows – they all bounce off, leaving you with a rather unhelpful message: "I can't deal any damage..." It’s a bit like trying to fight a brick wall with a feather. This immunity extends to poison and venom too, so don't bother with those tricks.

So, how do you actually hurt this prickly adversary? This is where things get interesting. The Tanglefoot has a very specific weakness, and it's not a stat you'd typically associate with combat. You need the Magic Secateurs. Yes, you read that right. These aren't your garden-variety gardening tools; they're specifically designed to tackle this botanical boss. Without them, you're essentially powerless.

These Magic Secateurs are obtained during the "Fairytale I - Growing Pains" quest from Malignius Mortifer, south of Falador. While they're primarily known for boosting crop yields in farming – a nice little bonus for your efforts – their combat application is singular and crucial for the Tanglefoot. It's worth noting that even though they have a higher slash stat, they're technically considered a stab weapon in this context. If you happen to lose them before defeating the Tanglefoot, you'll need to revisit the Nature Spirit to reacquire them. After the quest, you can buy more from Malignius Mortifer for a hefty 40,000 coins each, or store them with Tool Leprechauns.

There's also a weaker version, the "Baby Tanglefoot," found in the shady grove near the Cosmic Altar in Zanaris. These little guys are more manageable, with a fire weakness, but the core principle of needing the right tool for the job remains.

It's a fascinating design choice, isn't it? A monster that forces you to think outside the usual combat box and utilize a tool more commonly associated with peaceful cultivation. It really highlights the diverse and sometimes quirky nature of adventuring in Gielinor.
