Think about it. When you're asked to split something into equal parts, or find out how many times one number fits into another, you're performing division. The slash, often written as '/', is one of the most common ways to represent this. So, if you see '6 / 2', it's simply asking 'what is 6 divided by 2?' The answer, of course, is 3.
It's interesting to note how many ways we have to express this same idea. We have the familiar division symbol '÷', and then there's the fraction bar, where one number sits directly above another, separated by a horizontal line.
