Eliza Leslie, an American culinary writer, is credited with formally introducing the concept in her 1828 cookbook, 'Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweets.' This marked a significant step in popularizing what we now know as the cupcake.

Across the pond, in Britain, a similar treat goes by the charming name 'fairy cake.' It’s easy to see why – these small, often lightly frosted cakes do have a whimsical, almost magical quality, fitting for a fairy’s tea party.

What makes cupcakes so enduringly popular? Their inherent portability and individual portion size are huge factors. You don't need plates or forks; you can just pick one up and enjoy.
