Sweet Success and Community Spirit: A Decade of Baking in Evansville

Ten years. In the fast-paced world of small business, that's a significant milestone, especially when you're navigating the unpredictable currents of road construction, the occasional setback, and, of course, a global pandemic. But here in Evansville, Indiana, one bakery has not only weathered these storms but is celebrating a decade of sweet success.

Gayla Bell, the heart and hands behind GaylaCake, has built something truly special. Her downtown Evansville shop has become a local institution, a place where the aroma of freshly baked goods promises a moment of joy. It hasn't always been easy, though. Gayla has had to make some tough calls, like streamlining operations to open the storefront to the public only on Wednesdays. This pivot allows her to dedicate the rest of the week to crafting those intricate custom orders that make special occasions even more memorable. But on those Wednesdays, the doors swing open, offering a delightful array of treats – think creamy cheesecake bites, delicate cream horns, perfectly baked cookies, and of course, Gayla's signature cupcakes.

What truly sets GaylaCake apart, however, is its deep commitment to the Evansville community. Gayla believes that every child deserves a special treat, and her Foster Care Cake Program is a testament to that. Partnering with local foster agencies, GaylaCake provides free cakes and cupcakes to children in foster care, ensuring their birthdays are celebrated with the sweetness they deserve. It’s a beautiful way to bring a little extra magic into their lives. Beyond that, Gayla is a steadfast supporter of initiatives like The Promise Zone Youth, which focuses on nurturing the academic, social, and emotional growth of young people, and Cops Connecting With Kids, fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community's youth.

To mark this incredible ten-year journey, Gayla and her team are throwing a celebration. On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, everyone is invited to stop by for FREE CAKE. It’s a chance to share in their joy, reflect on the past decade, and perhaps get a taste of what the future holds for this beloved Evansville bakery.

It’s more than just cake; it’s about community, resilience, and the simple, profound pleasure of a well-made treat shared with others.
