Navigating the MailerLite Upgrade: A Smooth Transition to the New Dashboard

Thinking about making the leap to the new MailerLite? You're definitely not alone. It's a common question, and honestly, the idea of migrating can feel a bit daunting. But here's the good news: MailerLite has really focused on making this transition as smooth and stress-free as possible.

So, why bother upgrading? Well, the new MailerLite isn't just a fresh coat of paint. It's packed with more powerful features, a much-improved design experience, and it's snappier too. The goal is to help you grow your audience with less fuss and more flexibility. If you're curious about the nitty-gritty, there's a handy comparison page that breaks it all down.

One of the biggest worries when moving platforms is losing your hard-earned work. Thankfully, MailerLite assures us that nothing from your Classic account will disappear. Your assets and information stay put. Even after you migrate, your Classic account remains active as long as it's on a paid plan, meaning you can still access it whenever you need. In fact, they recommend keeping both accounts running side-by-side during the setup phase, especially for those crucial automations, forms, and live campaigns. It’s a smart way to avoid any hiccups.

Now, about your paid plan. It's important to know that your MailerLite Classic plan won't automatically transfer over. You'll need to manually cancel your paid plan in Classic. However, if you have any remaining credits, you can request to have them transferred to your new MailerLite account. Just reach out to their support team via the 'Contact us' page before you make the switch. Just a heads-up, these credit transfers are a one-time deal and can't be undone.

Before you dive in, a little preparation goes a long way. Make sure your Classic account is active, and keep those ongoing automations, forms, and campaigns running. If you have some favorite campaign designs, save them as templates in Classic so you can easily bring them over. And don't forget your integrations – these will need to be reconnected manually in the new platform.

What actually makes the move? Subscribers and groups? They’re good to go. Draft campaigns? Yep. Automations and landing pages? All migrate seamlessly. What doesn't come across? Things like subscriber history, sent campaign stats, outbox campaigns, and automation history. Multiple users are also limited to one on the free plan. Custom domains and DNS records will also need a fresh setup.

Ready to start? The migration process begins right in your MailerLite Classic account. Head over to the Integrations page, find Developer API, and click 'Use'. Copy that API key – you'll need it soon. To create your new account, click your account name in the top right corner and select 'Upgrade to the New MailerLite'. Follow the prompts to get started, create a new account, and fill in the necessary details. Once you're set up, every time you log in, you'll land on a single sign-on page where you can choose which version of MailerLite you want to work with.

Once you're in the new MailerLite dashboard, you'll see an option to transfer your Classic account data. Click 'Migrate account', paste that API key you copied earlier, and hit 'Confirm & migrate'. It’s that simple! Your company details, default settings, sender information, and other essential metadata will all move over smoothly.

For subscribers, the free plan allows you to migrate up to 500, which is a great way to test the waters. Just remember, billing in the new MailerLite is based on active subscribers, not unique ones like in Classic. To initiate subscriber migration, go to your new MailerLite dashboard, click 'Account settings', then the 'Migration' tab. Under 'Migration details', you'll see 'Account details' and 'Subscribers'. Click 'Proceed', then 'Start migration'. You can even choose specific groups from your Classic account to bring over.

It’s a thoughtful process designed to minimize disruption, allowing you to explore the enhanced features of the new MailerLite with confidence.
