Navigating the Delays: A Look Inside the 'Beast: Shattered Isles' Journey

It's always a bit of a nail-biter when you're eagerly awaiting a new expansion for a game you love, isn't it? For fans of the critically acclaimed hidden movement game 'Beast,' the 'Shattered Isles' expansion promised a thrilling dive into a dangerous new world, brimming with fresh beasts, ancient ruins, and intrepid hunters. Studio Midhall has been working hard to bring this vision to life, but as with many ambitious projects, the path from factory to tabletop hasn't been entirely smooth.

Recently, an update from the team shed light on the intricate logistics involved in getting 'Beast: Shattered Isles' and its accompanying expansions into our hands. It’s a complex dance of international shipping, customs, and fulfillment centers, especially when dealing with a massive undertaking involving over 95,000 individual items across a hundred different product versions. You can really feel the scale of the challenge they're tackling.

Across different regions, the timelines are varied. Australia and New Zealand are looking at port arrival by late October, with fulfillment expected before the year is out. Europe, however, faced a slight hiccup due to a quality control issue with the 'Great Hunt' boxes – some lids had bubbles, requiring a reprint. This small delay, combined with the usual transit times, means European fulfillment is now slated for January, a common crunch time for fulfillment centers.

Similarly, the UK shipment is expected to dock mid-December, with January being the anticipated start for fulfillment there too. For the 'Rest of the World' (ROT'W) regions like Argentina, Chile, and Peru, they're shipping alongside Europe, and there's a possibility of fulfillment this year, with confirmation to follow.

The US/North American shipment is perhaps the most complex, with the partner actively navigating tariffs to find the most cost-effective route. The team is pushing hard for an update on this, acknowledging the frustration of the extended wait and committing to a dedicated update by the end of October, even if it's just to outline the next steps.

It's also worth noting the studio's presence at Essen, a major gaming convention. They'll be there with demos of 'Beast,' 'Hollow Pact,' and the 'Beast RPG,' and will even have some copies of 'Beast: Shattered Isles' and 'The Great Hunt' available for sale. This has understandably raised some questions, given the fulfillment delays. The team has been transparent about this, explaining that revenue from convention sales is crucial for the studio's stability and future projects, especially after learning tough lessons about scope creep and extended development. They've emphasized their commitment to backers receiving their pledges first, but also the necessity of this revenue stream to keep operations healthy.

It’s a candid look behind the curtain, showing the dedication and the hurdles involved in bringing a beloved game expansion to a global audience. While the wait might be a little longer than anticipated for some, the commitment to quality and transparency from Studio Midhall is evident.
