Ever found yourself staring at a pile of shiny orbs, wondering how to turn them into something you actually need in Path of Exile 2? It's a common feeling, especially when you're just dipping your toes into the game's intricate trading system. Thankfully, the developers have built a pretty neat tool to smooth out these exchanges: the Currency Exchange.
Think of it as your in-game, instant vending machine for currency. Unlike trading for those coveted weapons or armor pieces, which usually involves the more complex Trade Site and your stash tabs, the Currency Exchange is specifically for those stackable items like Chaos Orbs, Exalted Orbs, and Divine Orbs. It’s designed for speed and simplicity, letting you swap one type of currency for another with other players in a snap.
So, where do you find this magical exchange? It’s not hidden away in some secret corner. You'll encounter friendly NPCs in towns who offer this service. In Act 1, it's Finn in the Clearfell Encampment. Head to Act 2, and Risu at the Ardura Caravan is your go-to. Alva is your contact in Act 3 at the Ziggurat Refuge, and she's also available in the endgame and your hideout. Just chat with them and select 'Currency Exchange'.
Once you open the window, it might look a little busy at first, but it's quite intuitive. You'll see two main sections: 'I Have' on the right and 'I Want' on the left. Clicking on 'I Have' brings up all the currency you currently possess, ready to be offered. The 'I Want' side is where you'll select what you're hoping to acquire.
On the left side of this window, you'll notice a set of tabs. These are super helpful for filtering. You can see everything tradable ('Owned'), just the basic currency ('Currency'), or delve into specific item types like Delirium rewards, Breach splinters, Expedition artifacts, Essences, Runes, Omens, and Soul Cores. While it's often easiest to just stick with 'Owned' to see everything, these tabs are a great way to learn about the vast array of items in the game, even if you don't own them yet.
Got a specific item in mind? There's a search box at the bottom. Type in a keyword, like 'Chaos Orb', and it’ll highlight matching items. You don't even need the full name; 'aos orb' will find 'Chaos Orb' because it's part of the word. It’s a small but mighty feature for quick searches.
Let's say you've decided to trade. You click on the currency you have – maybe an Exalted Orb. Then, you click on the currency you want – perhaps a Divine Orb. The system will automatically suggest a conversion rate based on what the market is currently doing. These suggested rates appear in grey. You can accept this by clicking anywhere else in the window, and the numbers will turn bold, confirming your chosen rate.
Before you finalize, you'll see a 'Place Order' button. Just above it, there's a Gold cost associated with the trade. This fee varies depending on the size of the trade and how rare the items are – more common exchanges are cheaper. Hit 'Place Order', and if your rate is close to the going market rate, the trade should happen instantly. You'll see your order marked as 'Order Completed', and the currency you bought will be ready to grab.
Here's a neat bonus: if the Exchange finds a better rate than you set, you might even get some Gold and currency back. You'll never receive more than you intended to buy, though. If your order is still waiting for a match, it'll show as 'Order Listed'. You can cancel it anytime by clicking the small 'X' next to your currency, though remember, the Gold you spent on the transaction fee is lost even if you cancel.
It’s a system that, once you get the hang of it, makes managing your currency so much smoother. No more trying to barter with random players for a few orbs; the Currency Exchange streamlines the process, letting you get back to the action.
