It's often the quiet moments, the everyday routines, that make a community feel safe. But when those routines are shattered by crime, it's the swift and effective response of law enforcement, working hand-in-hand with the public, that restores that sense of security. Recently, the Moorpark Police Department demonstrated just how vital this partnership can be.
Back on February 12th, a distressing incident unfolded near the intersection of Los Angeles Avenue and Spring Road. Deputies from the Moorpark Police Department were called to a robbery in progress. Upon arrival, they found a victim who had been physically assaulted and had their phone stolen. The injuries sustained were significant enough to require transport to the hospital.
This wasn't a case that ended with the initial response. The investigation was quickly taken up by the East County Major Crimes Bureau and the Moorpark Special Enforcement Unit. These dedicated detectives, armed with the information gathered by the patrol deputies and leveraging law enforcement databases, were able to pinpoint a suspect: Nathan Olivares, a 23-year-old resident of Fillmore.
The collaboration didn't stop there. On February 13th, deputies from Fillmore, working alongside Moorpark detectives, located Olivares in Fillmore. He was subsequently arrested for the crimes committed in Moorpark, facing charges of robbery (PC 211) and battery with serious bodily injury (PC 243(d)). Olivares is currently in custody with bail set at $250,000.
What's particularly heartening in this account is the Moorpark Police Department's explicit acknowledgment of the community's role. They extended their sincere thanks to the community members and businesses throughout Moorpark for their assistance. It's a powerful reminder that when law enforcement and the public work together, building trust and sharing information, the result is accountability for those who break the law and a stronger, safer community for everyone.
This spirit of cooperation is something the department actively encourages. And for those with information that could lead to an arrest, Ventura County Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $1,000, with the option to remain anonymous. It’s a testament to the idea that solving crimes is a shared responsibility.
