Megyn Kelly: A Look at Her Journey Through Media and Law

It's interesting how some figures in the public eye seem to weave through different facets of our cultural landscape, leaving a distinct mark along the way. Megyn Kelly is certainly one of those individuals. Born Megyn Marie Kelly in Champaign, Illinois, on November 18, 1970, her path has been a dynamic one, moving from the rigorous world of law to the often-turbulent waters of broadcast journalism and now into the realm of independent media.

Before she was a household name on television, Kelly honed her analytical skills. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Syracuse University and then went on to Albany Law School, graduating in 1995 with a Juris Doctor. She even served as an editor for the Albany Law Review. Her early career saw her practicing law, first at Bickel & Brewer LLP and later for nine years at Jones Day, where she worked with significant clients like Experian. It's this legal background, I think, that often informs her approach to questioning and analysis.

Her transition into media began in 2003 when she moved to Washington, D.C., joining ABC affiliate WJLA-TV as a general assignment reporter. She covered significant national events, including Supreme Court confirmation hearings and presidential elections. It was her move to Fox News in 2004, however, that really propelled her into the national spotlight. Over her tenure there, which lasted until 2017, she hosted several prominent programs, including "America Live" and the highly-rated "The Kelly File." She also co-anchored "America's Newsroom" and was a familiar face moderating presidential primary debates.

Following her departure from Fox News, Kelly embarked on a new chapter at NBC News, anchoring "Megyn Kelly Today." This period, from 2017 to 2019, represented another significant shift in her career. Since leaving NBC, she's embraced the evolving media landscape, launching her own platforms. Currently, she hosts "The Megyn Kelly Show," a daily talk show and podcast that airs on SiriusXM's Triumph channel and has garnered a substantial following on YouTube. In 2025, she further expanded her independent media presence with MK Media, a network featuring commentary and news from various creators.

Throughout her career, Kelly has been recognized for her influence, notably named one of Time's 100 most influential people in both 2014 and 2025. Her journey, from law school to the forefront of media, showcases a consistent drive and an ability to adapt and engage with contemporary issues. It's a career marked by significant roles, public scrutiny, and a continuous evolution in how she connects with her audience.
