For Android Users
On my Samsung, the process felt quite intuitive. First, I opened WhatsApp and tapped the three-dot menu in the top right corner. From there, I navigated to 'Settings,' then 'Chats,' and finally 'Default Chat Theme.' This is where you'll find the 'Customize' tab, and within that, 'Wallpaper.'
WhatsApp offers a decent selection of pre-set wallpapers. You can tap on any of them to see a preview. But if you're like me and want something truly unique, you can tap 'Choose from Gallery.' This lets you pick any photo from your phone's library. I remember wanting to add my favorite football club's logo – it’s a small touch, but it makes the app feel more like my own space. Just a heads-up, you can only use images as wallpapers; videos or GIFs aren't supported for this feature.
For iPhone Users
If you're on an iPhone, the steps are quite similar. Open WhatsApp, and this time, you'll tap the 'Settings' icon at the bottom of your screen. Then, it's 'Chats' followed by 'Default Chat Theme.' Just like on Android, you'll find 'Wallpaper' under the 'Customize' tab.
From there, you can browse the available options or select 'Choose from Photos' to use an image from your photo album. I've seen friends use pictures of their pets, family, or even funny memes – it really adds a personal touch. Once you've picked your image, just tap 'Set,' and you're good to go.
A Note for Business Owners
And for those of you running a business using WhatsApp Business? Good news! You can customize your chat wallpaper there too. The process is essentially the same as for personal accounts, so you can keep your business chats looking sharp and professional, or even add a touch of brand personality.
