Flipping Images in Google Slides: A Simple Guide

Ever found yourself with an image in Google Slides that just isn't quite facing the right way? Maybe it's a directional arrow that needs to point left instead of right, or perhaps a photo that would look better mirrored. It's a common little hiccup, and thankfully, Google Slides makes it surprisingly straightforward to fix.

It's not a hidden feature, nor does it require any fancy add-ons or complex coding, which is always a relief, right? You can do it directly within the slide editor itself. Think of it like giving your image a quick spin or a mirror image.

Here's how you do it:

First, you'll need to have your image already placed on your Google Slide. If you haven't inserted it yet, just go to Insert > Image and choose where you want to upload it from.

Once the image is on your slide, give it a single click. You'll see a blue border appear around it, indicating it's selected. Now, look for the small, circular handles that appear on the border. These are usually for resizing.

But here's the neat part: if you hover your mouse cursor just outside one of these corner handles, your cursor will change into a curved, double-headed arrow. This is your cue! Click and drag that handle. As you drag, you'll see the image rotate. You can rotate it freely to any angle you need.

Now, what if you don't want to rotate, but actually flip it horizontally or vertically? For that, we need to go a little deeper, but still, no coding required! With your image still selected, right-click on it. A context menu will pop up. Look for the Order option. Hovering over Order will reveal another submenu. Here, you'll find Flip horizontally and Flip vertically.

Simply choose the one that suits your needs. Flip horizontally will create a mirror image of your picture, and Flip vertically will flip it upside down. It's that simple! You've just mirrored your image without any fuss.

It's these little touches that make working with presentations so much smoother. While Google Slides offers powerful tools for automation and customization through things like Apps Script and add-ons, sometimes the most valuable features are the ones that let you quickly adjust the visual elements of your slides with just a few clicks. So next time an image needs a little flip, you know exactly what to do.
