When you think of Max Holloway, the image that likely springs to mind is the "Blessed Era," the "BMF" champion, a fighter who dominated the UFC featherweight division with a relentless spirit. But beyond the roar of the crowd and the flash of the octagon lights, there's a quieter, equally significant part of his life: his son, Rush Holloway.
Rush, now 13, is Max's only child from his first marriage to Kaimana Pa’aluhi. While Max isn't one to overshare about his personal life, glimpses of their bond are precious. We've seen Rush by his father's side at post-fight press conferences, like UFC 245, a testament to their closeness. And who could forget the raw emotion of UFC 236, when Max, bloodied but unbowed, saw his son in tears after a grueling fight? Max later recalled Rush crying when he saw him, a moment that speaks volumes about their deep father-son connection.
Kaimana Pa’aluhi, Rush's mother, was Max's childhood sweetheart. Their story is one of enduring connection, a bond forged in the early days when Max, who had a challenging childhood and few friends, found a true confidant in Kaimana. They married in 2012, the same year Rush was born. However, like many relationships, theirs eventually ran its course, and they separated in 2014. From the age of two, Rush has been primarily raised by Max.
This commitment to fatherhood is deeply rooted in Max's own experiences. He's spoken openly about the absence of his own father and his determination to ensure Rush wouldn't face the same. "My grandfather played the father role," Max shared in an interview, reflecting on the unique paternal guidance he received. "My mom had a hard time explaining, 'He's like a dad, but he's not, he's still your grandfather.' I realized then that my grandfather gave me fatherly love, but not a biological father. So, if I could give my son a real dad and mom, that would be great."
Even with the introduction of Max's current wife, professional surfer Alessa Quizon, into the family dynamic, Rush has continued to thrive. It's clear that Max has strived to create a stable and loving home for his son, a testament to the enduring power of family, both in and out of the spotlight.
