And for beer lovers, a pint of 5% strength lager can contain up to 222 calories. That’s not far off from a slice of cake, as some sources point out!

  • Wine: A standard 175ml glass of 12% wine can be around 158 kcal. If you opt for a larger 75ml measure of 17.5% fortified wine, it's closer to 102 kcal. However, sweeter wines tend to be higher; a 103ml serving of sweet wine can reach 165 kcal, while a 150ml serving of red wine might be around 125 kcal and white wine 120 kcal.
  • Beer: A pint of 5% strength beer can be up to 222 kcal. Lighter options are available, though. A 355ml (12 fl oz) serving of light beer typically has around 105 calories, while Guinness Draught comes in at about 125 calories for the same size. It’s worth noting that craft beers, often richer in flavor, can also carry more calories, sometimes 170 kcal or more for a 355ml serving, due to extra ingredients and carbohydrates.
  • Spirits: A double measure (50ml) of 40% spirits, like vodka or gin, is around 100 kcal. The key here is what you mix them with. While the spirit itself has a set calorie count, adding sugary mixers can dramatically increase the total.
